Skincare Mistakes You Might Be Making and How To Fix Them

Taking care of your skin can feel overwhelming, can’t it? There’s so much advice out there, and it’s hard to know what actually works. I see it all the time - people doing their best but getting stuck in habits that could be holding their skin back.

The good news? Most of these mistakes are totally fixable. Sometimes it’s just a matter of tweaking a few habits or switching to products that actually work. Let’s go through the most common mistakes I see and how to turn them around - you’ll be glowing in no time!

Here are the most common “oops” moments I’ve seen and heard - and my easy tips to fix them:

Trying Too Many Products Too Quickly:

I get it - you want results now, but skincare takes patience. Constantly chopping and changing products doesn’t give your skin the time it needs to adjust. The fix? Stick to a simple consistent routine for at least 6-12 weeks to let your skin do its thing.

Diving Headfirst Into Buzzwords (Like Retinol, Aha’s & BHA’s:)

Retinol, AHA’s and BHA’s can be amazing, but if your using them wrong - too fast - too much or the wrong one for your skin type you can irritate your skin. With products like these its always best to get advice on which one is for you and to start slow and pair with a good moisturiser. Let your skin build up tolerance.

Using Dirty Flannels or Makeup Wipes:

Reusing the same flannel? Think about all the bacteria hanging out there! And make-up wipes? They don’t actually clean your skin - they just move the dirt around. Always use a clean, soft cloth and a proper cleanser to wash your face and if you have heavy makeup on make sure you do two cleanses.

Using Water That’s Too Hot:

Hot water might feel nice, but it can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and upset. Tepid water is your BFF - its gentle and keeps your skin happy.

Coming Off Medications Without a Plan:

If you’ve been on acne medication, your skin needs support once you stop. Most of the time exfoliation is a no go for a few months post certain acne drugs so hydration and a gentle effective approach are key for maintaining any results achieved long-term. Don’t leave your skin hanging!

Forgetting About Hormones:

Your skin is like a mirror for your hormones. If you’re dealing with hormonal imbalances (like during your cycle or with conditions like PCOS), its important to work with your body, not against it.

Relying on High-Street Products:

High-street skincare might feel fancy and you may love the smell of a particular product, but most of it doesn’t do much beyond the surface. Medical-grade skincare, (my fav), go deeper- working on the root causes of acne, dryness, and ageing.

Why Medical-Grade Skincare is the Real Deal!

I know, switching to medical-grade skincare might feel like a leap, but here’s why its worth it:

  • IT ACTUALLY WORKS: These products have been through clinical trials and are proven to deliver real results.

  • SAFE AND ETHICAL INGREDIENTS: No fillers, no harsh irritants - just pure. skin-loving ingredients.

  • LONG TERM BENEFITS: While high-street skincare often just masks the problems, medical-grade products work with your skin to actually fix them.

When you invest in the right products, you’re not just treating your skin, you’re transforming it.

The best bit is you don’t have to figure this out alone, I’m here to guide you every step of the way. Whether you’re frustrated with high-street products or unsure what your skin really needs, I’ve got you covered.

I’ve handpicked my favourite products to help repair and support your skin, which is the first—and most important—step. Without a strong barrier, it’s hard to address breakouts effectively.
